名片中稱(chēng)謂語(yǔ)的翻譯(轉載)

　　行政機構首長(cháng)稱(chēng)謂---"長(cháng)"的英譯

　　在漢語(yǔ)領(lǐng)導稱(chēng)謂中，最常見(jiàn)的莫過(guò)于帶"長(cháng)"字的。但一樣的"長(cháng)"在英語(yǔ)中卻有不同的表達，在非行政體系中：

　　校長(cháng)（大學(xué)）：President of Beijing University

　　校長(cháng)（中小學(xué)）：Principal/Headmaster of Donghai Middle School

　　院長(cháng)（大學(xué)下屬院、系的首長(cháng)）：Dean of the Graduate School

　　院長(cháng)（醫院）：President of Huadong Hospital

　　院長(cháng)（中科院）：President of the Chinese academy of Science

　　會(huì )長(cháng)（學(xué)/協(xié)會(huì )）：President of the Student Union, Shanghai University

　　廠(chǎng)長(cháng)（企業(yè)）：Manager / Director of the Machine Tools Manufacturing Plant

　　火車(chē)站站長(cháng):Chief of a station

　　代表團團長(cháng):Head of a delegation

　　軍隊中的各級"長(cháng)": Commander，如師長(cháng):Division Commander

　　檢察長(cháng):Procurator-General

　　審判長(cháng):Chief Judge

　　護士長(cháng):Head Nurse

　　秘書(shū)長(cháng):Secretary-General

　　參謀長(cháng):Chief of Staff

　　廚師長(cháng):Head Cook

　　"長(cháng)"字用得最多的還是行政體系中：

　　部長(cháng)(國務(wù)院下屬部)： Minister

　　部長(cháng)（黨政系統，如宣傳部長(cháng)）：Head

　　部長(cháng)（中央軍委各部）：Director

　　注：企業(yè)中的各部（如公關(guān)部）負責人一般都用"經(jīng)理"，如以"部長(cháng)"稱(chēng)之，則也適宜用Director。

　　司長(cháng)： Director

　　廳長(cháng)： Director

　?。ㄓ捎谒竞蛷d屬于同一級別，所以?xún)烧叩氖组L(cháng)稱(chēng)謂也應統一。）

　　局長(cháng)： Director

　　中國的"局"是一個(gè)用得十分普遍的行政機構名稱(chēng)，它既可以是部級的，如"國家環(huán)?？偩?；副部級的，如"國家工商管理局"；地廳級的，如省環(huán)保局；也可以是縣處級甚至科級的，如市、區工商局，在其首長(cháng)的稱(chēng)謂上我們一般采取以下原則，即對副部級以上的"局長(cháng)"，譯作：Director General,其它局長(cháng)一律用Director來(lái)概括。將部級局長(cháng)譯作Director General ,可以使之與下屬"司長(cháng)"（譯作：Director）有效區分，更好地體現出行政等級。

　　縣長(cháng) County Chief

　　在美國，縣,即County的最高行政領(lǐng)導有各種不同稱(chēng)呼，如: Chief Executive、 Mayor、 Manager等，鑒于在我國Mayor作為市長(cháng)的對譯已深入人心，將"縣長(cháng)"稱(chēng)作County Mayor,人們會(huì )不習慣，同理，稱(chēng)作Manager也很別扭，筆者以為照顧習慣選擇Chief Executive 作為縣長(cháng)的英譯應是上策。

　　另外，我國當前有些人將"縣長(cháng)"譯為County Magistrate，筆者認為不妥。

　　《韋氏字典》對Magistrate的釋義是:1. A civil officer charged with the administration of the law. 2. a minor judicial officer, as a justice of the peace or the judge of a police court, having jurisdiction to try minor criminal cases and to conduct preliminary examinations of persons charged with serious crimes。

　　從上述釋義可以看出，Magistrate是一種司法官員；在美國各地的縣（County）下設有Magistrate’s Court，相當縣治安法庭，而 County Magistrate就相當于縣治安法官了，負責審理一些小案件。我國古代的縣令，普遍譯為County Magistrate, 那是因為當時(shí)縣令經(jīng)常承擔審案之責，確有和上述Magistrate相似之處，但現在的縣長(cháng)卻不能去審案。

　　以"縣長(cháng)"類(lèi)推--

　　區長(cháng): District Chief

　　鎮長(cháng)：Town Chief，也可稱(chēng)為：Town Mayor

　　鄉長(cháng)：Township Chief

　　村長(cháng)： Village Head

　　"村長(cháng)"也有多種翻譯，如Village Chief、 Village Head、 Village Mayor，"村長(cháng)"的正式官名是"村委會(huì )主任"，可以譯為：Chairman（Head） of Villager’s Committee, 推存使用Head。

　　科長(cháng)/股長(cháng)：Section Chief

　　所長(cháng)：Director
